WOMEN’S REFLECTION GROUP * SEPT. 8, 2010

How is it possible for a person to be committed to his or her own religious tradition while respecting and being open to the faith traditions of other people?  How can we move from triumphalism to peaceful coexistence?  This is the challenge before us in the 21st century.  Join the Women’s Reflection Group for our Fall Series.  We will learn about faith traditions other than our own and hopefully come to an understanding of how we can live in harmony and peace.  We will meet on Wednesday, September 8th from 9:30 – 11:30 a.m. in the Hospitality Room.  Join us for continental breakfast, reflection, discussion, and prayer.  We look forward to seeing you there.

ADULT FAITH FORMATION OPPORTUNITIES

Fr. George presents a 5-part Book Series * The Book of Revelation

The 5-part series runs September 8, 15, 22 and October 6, 13.  If you already ordered your book, they will be available for pick up at the parish office or after masses beginning next weekend, August 14/15th.

Full of awesome and gruesome scenes that seem to provoke more fear than faith, the Book of Revelation is often read as a roadmap through the doom and gloom of the end time.  Correctly understood, however, this grand finale of the New Testament is a loud and clear call to conversion as well as a message of hope and consolation for Christians of every age.  It is the book of the Risen and Glorified Christ. (New Collegeville Bible Commentary)

MINISTRY OF CARE TRAINING

BEGINS SEPTEMBER 14

CHS ministers of care provide pastoral care to parishioners in hospitals, nursing homes, or the parishioner’s home for those who are homebound.  Ministers of care respond to those in need through their presence, prayer, and sacrament.  They are a powerful witness to God’s presence in the world and the faith community’s spiritual concern for those in need, suffering, or who are not able to worship at Sunday mass.

Training for Ministers of Care consists of six evenings, once a week for six weeks beginning September 14 at Holy Family Church, 2515 W. Palatine Rd., Inverness.  Topics include: Spirituality of the Ministry, Prayer in the Ministry, Pastoral Communication Skills, Experience of Suffering, Ministerial Procedures, and Theology of the Eucharist.

Monthly meetings at CHS provide ongoing support and education to Ministers of Care after their training. We are in need of volunteers to continue this important ministry.  To register for this training or to discuss further, please contact Fr. John at (847) 882-7580, Lin Greidanus at (847) 884-7910 or Maria Brax at (847) 891-7469.

WE NEED MORE OF YOU

The Society of St. Vincent DePaul

Church of the Holy Spirit

The generosity of the CHS Community is enormous and we appreciate all that you contribute to our St. Vincent de Paul Conference.  But now we need to ask for a bit more help.  We are in desperate need of volunteers for our programs.  Except for the monthly collections for the CHS Food Pantry, each of these occurs once a year so the time commitment is minimal.  If we are unable to get sufficient help, we will consider dropping some of these activities and the assistance they provide to those who need it:

Thanksgiving Food Collection (November)

Adopt-a-Family Christmas Gifts and food collection (November-December)

Giving Tree (December)

Easter Food Collection (April)

Hunger Walk (June)

School Supply Collection (August)

Blood Drive (September)

CHS Food Pantry Collections (10 times a year)

If you are interested in helping, please contact Sr. Marianne at the parish office at (847) 882-7580 or Marge O’Connor, SVDP president, at (847) 875-3028.  If all you can offer right now are prayers for a solution to our needs that is equally appreciated.  Thanks!

Ministry of Care

Ministers Available

Do you have a family member, friend, or neighbor who could benefit from the services that our Ministry of Care provides? We are a group of over 30 parishioners who visit the homebound, hospital patients, and nursing home residents. Often, a person who is ill or elderly can find spiritual support in talking about his/her feelings or praying with a Minister of Care. We can also bring communion, if requested. The Church of the Holy Spirit Ministry of Care has been in existence since 1979. All Ministers of Care complete a training program focusing on a variety of skills, with listening skills being among the most important. For further information about our Ministry of Care, or how we can be of assistance, please contact Deacon Ray Doud at the Parish Office at (847) 882-7580.

The St. Vincent de Paul Society of Church of the Holy Spirit is here to assist parishioners and/or local community members who are in need of assistance with rent, food, utilities, clothing or medical needs. All information is kept confidential. If you or someone you know is in need, please call the Parish Office at 847-882-7580 and ask for Sr. Marianne Supan.
